Weather Update: Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Worcester

Monday, December 12, 2016

 

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Worcester.

According to the service, 2 to 4 inches of snow is possible starting after 9 p.m. on Sunday night with the snow expected to change to freezing rain before 11 a.m. on Monday morning. 

The advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. on Sunday night to 1 p.m. on Monday, December 12.

* LOCATIONS...NORTHERN CONNECTICUT...AS WELL AS SOUTHWEST...

  CENTRAL AND NORTHERN MASSACHUSETTS.

 

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW AND SOME ICE.

 

* ACCUMULATIONS...3 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW...HIGHEST AMOUNTS NEAR THE

  NEW HAMPSHIRE BORDER. A TRACE TO LESS THAN A TENTH OF AN INCH

  OF ICE ACCRETION.

 

* TIMING...SNOW BEGINS EARLY THIS EVENING IN CONNECTICUT...THEN

  OVERSPREADS THE REST OF THE REGION THEREAFTER. SNOW WILL CHANGE

  TO RAIN BETWEEN 6 AND 9 AM FROM SOUTH TO NORTH BUT A PERIOD OF

  FREEZING RAIN IS LIKELY DURING THE TRANSITION.

 

* IMPACTS...THE COMBINATION OF SNOW COVERED ROADS AND SOME ICE

  ACCRETION WILL RESULT IN HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS TONIGHT

  AND DURING THE MORNING COMMUTE.

 

* VISIBILITIES...ONE QUARTER TO ONE HALF MILE AT TIMES.
