Where to Get Fresh Produce This Summer

Friday, June 15, 2012

Summer means farmers' market season. If you're looking to eat healthy and go local this season, check out these great stops for fresh produce this summer.

Holden

Holden’s line-up of local farms and orchards will make for a perfect stop to do your grocery shopping. Their market features B & B Farms, Billy Goat Beanery, Black Hen Farm, Five Loaves Bakery, Hancock Farm, Log Cabin Orchards and others.

The Holden Farmers' Market is located at 1187 Main St, Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. If you can’t make it early on Tuesdays, try swinging by after work.

Worcester

Worcester features three markets throughout the week, giving you no excuse to go without fresh local produce.

The Worcester Common Farmers' Market, located at 455 Main Street is open on Friday from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in conjunction with their Out to Lunch concert series. Come out and enjoy the live music while you partake in local produce. Make your Friday's even better from June 29 - August 31st.

The Regional Environmental Council (REC) will be holding their opening of the season this weekend at the YMCA Family Park on Murray Ave. Their collection of local goodies features produce grown by local youth right in the city, and will also feature food and produce from Oakdale Farms (Rehoboth), New Lands Farm (Worcester), Roastmeisters Coffee (Worcester), Schultz Farm (Rutland), Nuestro Huerto (Worcester), New Roots CSA (Sterling), and Food Art by Rob: freshly prepared cuisine.

The Great Brook Valley Mobile Farmers' Market is supported by the REC and will start June 26th. It will be available in the neighborhood from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Finally, the Worcester / Northeast Side Farmers' Market takes place every Thursday from 12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at 215 East Mountain Street.

Westborough

You’ll find Westborough’s farmers' market at 57 West Main Street, on Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. They feature all sorts of delicious goodies from honey, to wine, to fresh brownies. Enjoy some music while you enjoy your local shopping. This fun-filled farmers' market will be in historic downtown Westborough every week until the end of September .

Auburn

If you’re in Auburn, check out the local weekly produce at 369 Southbridge Street. Catch them on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., from June 16 to November 3rd. Come see their variety of organic fruits and veggies, and don’t miss their local crafts and specialties.
