Twenty-eight candidates are running for a seat on Worcester's City Council. 20 of the candidates have filed bank reports with the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance (OCPF). According to the OCPF, between the 20 candidates that have filed, there is a total of $161,141.31 in campaign money going towards this fall's election to date.

Available campaign finances for the 20 candidates that have filed range from $7 to $60,000. The difference between the candidate with the most money and the candidate with the second most is more than $38,000.

Two candidates, District 5 Councilor Gary Rosen and District 3 Councilor George Russell, are both running unopposed, but are on extremely different ends of the campaign finance spectrum.  Rosen has under $200 in his campaign balance, while Russell has more than $17,000.

Candidates for District City Council Seats

There are four candidates running for District 2 City Council - a seat formerly occupied by Phil Palmieri who is running for an At-Large position. Candy Mero-Carlson has the most campaign money so far among the four with nearly $7,400.

18 candidates are running for an At-Large City Council seat including Palmieri and incumbents Morris Bergman, Michael Gaffney, Konnie Lukes, Joe Petty, Rick Rushton and Kate Toomey. The other challengers include: Carmen Carmona, William Coleman III, Paul Cooney, George Fox, Juan Gomez, Khrystian King, Linda Parham, Ronald O'Clair, Robert Sargent, Matthew Wally, Todd Williams, and Christina Zlody.

Petty, who is running for an At-Large position and for re-election as Mayor has raised over $20,000 - nearly three times the amount raised by Councilor Gaffney, Petty's only declared challenger in the mayoral race.

In 2015, Petty has seen more than $18,000 in campaign contributions. Contributions between $250-500 are from Central Mass's wealthy and elite including Michael Angellini, Chairman of Bowditch & Dewey, John Direnzo, Owner of Direnzo Towing, Tony Tilton, Attorney at Fletcher, Tilton & Whipple, Steven MacLauchlan, President and CEO of St. Vincen'ts Hospital, and David Massad, CEO of Commerce Bank.

Gaffney has raised nearly $10,000 so far in 2015. Many of Gaffney's campaign contributions have come individuals with a history of supporting Republican nominees across the state of Massachusetts, including members of Mass Fiscal Alliance - Executive Director Paul Craney, Political Director Carl Copeland, and former Finance Committee Chairman John Esler - and Chanel Prunier, Republican State Committee Chair Member.
