Belanger Wins Primary for Binienda’s Vacant Rep Seat
Tuesday, September 09, 2014
Belanger received almost as many voters as his two opponents – Moses Dixon and Mike Germain – combined. Belanger received 1,477 votes while Germain received 783 and Dixon received 737.
"It's very emotional," said Belanger after his win. "I loved John [Binienda] like a brother and was with him almost up until the end."
Belanger, Dixon, and Germain were all battling for the seat that was long vacated for almost three decades by John Binienda, who recently passed away after saying he was not going to seek re-election earlier in the year.
Belanger will now go on to face the only Republican running in the 17th Worcester District, Kate Campanale.
