Tuesday, August 14, 2018

The woman whose body was found in the trunk of a car in Maine last week has been identified as Maddilyn Burgess, 28, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Incident

Maine State Police reported that Gyrth Rutan, 34, committed suicide in front of a Trooper after being pulled over in Gardiner, Maine on Thursday afternoon.

Police discovered the body of Burgess in the trunk, the apparent victim of a murder.

Sturbridge Police and the State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office began investigating after Maine State Police discovered Rutan resided at 5 Fairview Park Road, Apt. 12 in Sturbridge.

Detectives searched Rutan’s residence on Friday and discovered evidence of a crime scene at this address.

The Medical Examiner in Maine has determined that Burgess died of blunt force injuries.
