Woman in Stable Condition After Being Hit by Car in Worcester

Monday, January 15, 2018

A 20-year-old woman is in stable condition after being hit by a car in the area of Highland Street on Friday night.

According to police, the woman suffered injuries to her head, pelvis, and knee.

This investigation is ongoing, there have been no citations issued at this time but may change as the investigation moves forward.

The Incident

On Friday, January 12, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Worcester Police responded to a report of a car and pedestrian accident in the area of 77 Highland Street. Upon the officers arrival they saw a 20-year-old woman in the roadway suffering from serious injuries. She was conscious and alert but in obvious pain.

Officers at the scene attended to the victim until Worcester EMS arrived. She was treated at the scene, stabilized and then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The victim is currently in stable condition.

Recon investigators arrived at the scene and spoke with witnesses and the driver of the 2017 Buick that struck the woman.

Investigators were told that the car was traveling westbound on Highland Street when it hit the woman with the front of the vehicle. The pedestrian was walking from the south side of Highland Street to the north side of Highland Street.

The impact caused the pedestrian to roll up onto the hood and then into the windshield. The woman then fell to the ground and came to rest of the driver’s side of the Buick.

The driver immediately stopped, called the police and tended to the woman.

Investigators noted that the weather conditions and visibility were poor with rainy conditions. Investigators discovered that the victim was not in a marked crosswalk.

Investigators processed evidence. The Buick was towed from the scene and will have a full mechanical inspection to determine if any mechanical deficiencies may have been a contributing factor to this incident.
