Women Drowns in Coes Pond in Worcester

A 49-year-old women drowned at Coes Pond and was recovered by the Worcester Fire Scuba Team at approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday. 

An investigation has indicated that the drowing appears to be accidental.

The Incident 

Worcester Police responded to a Fremont Street home for a check on the welfare call. Officers were told that a 49-year-old went missing and was last seen at Coes Pond. Officers met with neighbors and were informed that they had not seen her since 7 AM. Police were told that she may have been swimming at Coes Pond. Officers went to the pond and conducted a search of the area. The search was unsuccessful. Due to darkness a scuba search was postponed until daybreak.

At approximately 9:00 AM, Worcester Fire Scuba Team located and recovered the 49-year-old missing person.

WPD detectives were on scene. Preliminary investigation indicates that it appears to be an accidental drowning. The Office of the Chief medical Examiner was notified and accepted the case. 

The exact cause of death is pending results of the post mortem examination. Investigation to continue.
