Worcester County Cities and Towns with Most Registered Sex Offenders

There are nearly 2,000 registered level 2 and 3 sex offenders living in Worcester County. The five cities in the county make up for more than 50% of the offenders, with Worcester alone home to 567 offenders.

On Monday, GoLocal Worcester reported that there are 179 Level 3 sex offenders living in Worcester. That number is more than double the amount of level 3 offenders than in 2005. An additional 30 level 3 offenders either work or go to school in Worcester, driving the number to 209 level 3 sex offenders in the city at any given time.

Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis told GoLocal, “The potential tragedies out there are unpredictable. It doesn’t just affect one person, or one family, it affects entire communities."

Level 2 Offenders in Worcester County

There are currently 358 Level 2 Sex Offenders in Worcester. The city of Boston, with more than three times the population size of Worcester, has only 299 registered level 2 sex offenders.

A Level 2 sex offender is determined by the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board (SORB) that the risk of reoffense is moderate and the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is limited

In 2013, the Registry Board made the list of Level 2 Sex Offenders in the state available to the public.

Any individual registered as a Level 2 Sex offender prior to 2013 is not available for a public records search on the Mass SORB website.

Due to this ruling, only 694 registered sex offenders in Worcester County are listed on the SORB site.

Worcester County Compared to Other Counties in MA

The 694 registered sex offenders on the SORB site make Worcester County higher than the other 13 counties in the state for offenders on the site. With a population of roughly 800,000, there are 25 sex offenders for every 10,000 people living in the county. However, because Level 2 offenders only became public record in 2013, only 8.6 sex offenders per 10,000 residents are on the SORB site.

Compared to the 13 other counties in the Commonwealth, Worcester County has the second highest population behind Middlesex County which is home to around 1.5 million people. However, Middlesex County has nearly 300 less registered sex offenders on the SORB site.
