Worcester Man Arrested After Attempting to Rob Harrahy’s Liquor Store With Gun
Saturday, April 28, 2018
Manuel Rivera, 65, was arrested for armed assault to rob.
The Incident
On Tuesday, April 24, at about 4:10 p.m., Worcester Police officers were sent to Harrahy’s Liquor Store at 107 Ward St for a report of an attempted armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers saw three men attempting to pin down one man on the floor of the business. There appeared to be a black handgun on the floor next to the men.
After taking possession of the handgun, officers detained the suspect, identified as Manuel Rivera, 65, of Worcester, while they spoke with store employees. The store employees said that Rivera entered the store, wearing a mask and black paint all over his face, and said “Give me all the money in the register.” Rivera then brandished the black handgun and threatened to kill the store employees if they did not listen to him.
A store employee grabbed Rivera’s wrist in an attempt to control the weapon. At that point, the two additional store employees entered the business and were able to subdue Rivera and dial 9-1-1.
Officers determined that the handgun was a realistic-looking BB gun replica.
No one was seriously injured during the struggle.
