Worcester Man Arrested After Breaking Into House on Piedmont Street

Saturday, October 14, 2017

A Worcester man was arrested after breaking into a Piedmont Street address and stealing electronic devices and money.

Jesus Rivera, 42, was charged with Breaking and Entering in the daytime with the Intent to Commit a Felony and Larceny from a Building.

The Incident

On Tuesday, October 10,  Worcester police responded to a Piedmont Street address for a reported past house break. Upon the officers arrival they met with the victim. The officers were told that when they arrived home they realized that their home had been broken into and that some electronic devices along with a small amount of cash were now missing.

Officers were told that the landlord has several security cameras positioned throughout the property. At this time officers met with the landlord and were shown the footage that captures the suspect committing the break. The quality of the camera was good and officers were able to get a clear look of the suspect.

The video shows a man trying to open a window. The man was wearing gloves and dressed in black clothing. After a few attempts the man is able to open one window. The man is seen climbing into the apartment through the window that he opened. The suspect then closes the window. A short time later the man is seen leaving the apartment by the rear door carrying a bag. The suspect was inside the apartment for approximately a half hour.

Investigators took several screen shots of the suspect and distributed throughout the police department. Two police officers identified the suspect as Rivera of 59 Benefit Street. Investigators took the suspects name and entered it into the computer system. Investigators were able to obtain a photo of Rivera and matched his picture to that of the still shot from the security camera.

Once identification was confirmed, officers now had probable cause to locate and place Rivera under arrest for the house break.

On Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at approximately 6:15 p.m., investigators located Rivera at his home and placed him under arrest without incident. Rivera
