Worcester Man Arrested After Intentionally Hitting Another Man With Truck
Monday, February 27, 2017
Seamus Carey, 19, of Worcester is being charged with armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating to endanger, leaving the scene of property damage, and leaving the scene of personal injury.
The Incident
On Friday, February 24, at 4:30 p.m., a Worcester Police Officer was working an off-duty paid detail at Worcester Academy. As the officer drove up Marion Ave from Shannon Street, he saw a black pickup truck driving through the grass and over the sidewalk in the area of Worcester Academy’s Performing Arts Center. As the truck continued back onto the street on Marion Ave, the officer saw a man rolling in the grass in the area where the truck had just driven from.
A group of individuals in the area began yelling to the officer to stop the truck. The officer activated his overhead lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The truck pulled halfway up onto the sidewalk in the area of 17 Marion Ave and the driver (later identified as 19 year old Seamus Carey of Worcester) exited the truck. Carey had his fists clenched in a fighting stance and started walking towards a group of individuals who were yelling at him.
As the officer approached, Carey attempted to flee on foot. The officer was able to grab onto Carey’s sweatshirt to stop him from fleeing and placed him into handcuffs while awaiting the arrival of assisting officers. Once additional officers arrived, police were able to speak with the victim and witnesses on scene.
Police were told by several witnesses that Carey had engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim and several other men. During the confrontation, Carey intentionally hit the 20 year old victim with his truck before trying to flee the area. The victim was treated on scene for a minor injury to his hip and arm.
While in handcuffs, Carey began screaming at officers and witnesses in the area. Carey was arrested.
During the investigation, police observed front end damage to the truck as well as a broken rear window. Police also saw a rock on the passenger seat. Police learned that at some point during the altercation, the victim threw a rock at Carey’s truck, breaking the window. As a result of this information, the victim is also being summonsed to court on the charges of assault with a dangerous weapon (rock) and malicious destruction over $250.
