Worcester Man Arrested After Robbing “Midway Fashion” Store in Worcester

Thursday, March 23, 2017

A Worcester man was arrested after robbing the “Midway Fashion” store on Main Street in Worcester on Tuesday night.

Tyrone Singleton, 44, of Worcester was arrested and charged with unarmed robbery.

The Incident

On Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Worcester Police responded to 828 Main Street for a report of an Unarmed Robbery at the “Midway Fashion” store. Prior to arriving, police were told by dispatch that a witness was following the suspect and saw the suspect run into the brick apartment building located at 15 Oread Street.

Upon arrival at 828 Main Street, police spoke with a 60-year-old woman, who is also the owner of the business. The victim said that she was working at “Midway Fashions” when a man entered the store and attempted to sell her an item. When the victim refused to purchase the item, the man grabbed $70 cash from the counter of the store and attempted to run. The victim chased him and was able to catch up to him, at which time a fight ensured between the two.

A citizen bystander saw the fight and heard the woman yelling that she had just been robbed. The bystander came to the aid of the victim and assisted in holding on to the suspect while at the same time calling police. Once the suspect realized the bystander was notifying police, the suspect returned the money to the victim and fled on foot towards Oread Street. The citizen bystander was able to follow the suspect and saw him go into the apartment building located at 15 Oread Street.

The victim and the witness provided police with a detailed description of the suspect as well as his clothing description. Acting on this information, police proceeded to 15 Oread Street and were able to locate a male matching the suspect description. Police identified this man as  Singleton.

The witness was able to positively identify Singleton as the male who had stolen the money from the store and fought with the store owner.

Neither the store owner nor the witness was injured during this incident.
