Worcester Man Arrested After Stealing Van
Thursday, December 08, 2016
Robert Lallier, 45, is being charged with using a motor vehicle without authority, operating with a suspended license, trespassing, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.
The Incident
According to Worcester police: On Tuesday, December 6, at approximately 9:40 p.m., a Worcester Police officer on patrol saw a white Ford van pull into the parking lot of the McDonald’s on Main Street. The officer was aware that the van had been reported stolen earlier in the night out of the town of Millbury.
The officer pulled in behind the van and turned on his lights. As he did, the driver identified as Lallier, opened the door to the van and exited. The officer told Lallier to walk backward towards the officer and away from the van. Lallier refused to comply and took off running at a full sprint across Main Street.
The officer gave chase and called dispatch, keeping other officers updated to Lallier’s direction of travel. The officer continued chasing the man, running down Clement Street, back across Main Street, and up Freeland Street. The officer briefly lost sight of Lallier in the area of Freeland and Main Streets. After a short time, other officers responding to the area saw Lallier running between two buildings on Freeland Street. Lallier again refused to stop, and instead ran directly towards officers in a threatening manner.
Police were able to take Lallier down to the ground and place him in handcuffs.
