Worcester Man Arrested After Threatening Driver With Machete

Wednesday, September 14, 2016

Aldo Rivera, 41, of Worcester was arrested and charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and threatening to commit a crime after he threatened another man with a machete during a road rage incident near Burncoat High School.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Worcester District County Courthouse.

The Incident

On Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at approximately 2:00 PM, a Worcester Police Officer, working as a School Resource Officer for Burncoat High School, was flagged down by a motorist reporting that a man was in possession of a machete on nearby Rexhame Road. The officer called for assistance as school had just released their students. The officer responded to Rexhame Road.

The officer arrived at the intersection of Burncoat Street and Rexhame Road. He noticed several people gathered in the area. The officer was told that a man with a machete had just left the area in a white Nissan Murano. The group told the officer that the car drove west on Rexhame Road.

The officer continued on Rexhame Road and quickly came upon the suspect car parked in front of a red Ford Fusion. Both drivers were out of the cars. The officer approached the two men. The driver of the red Fusion stated to the officer that the driver of the white Nissan pulled a machete on him during a road rage incident.

The driver of the white Nissan, identified as Aldo Rivera, 41, of 35 Cobblestone Lane, Worcester, denied threatening the driver with the weapon but did state that the machete was in his car. At this time the officer recovered the weapon. The weapon was located under the passenger floor mat where his 13-year-old daughter sat. Also in the suspect car was his 17-year-old son.

The driver of the red Fusion stated that he was driving north on Burncoat Street. Rivera was directly behind him traveling in the same direction. As he approached Burncoat Junior High School he noticed Rivera attempted to pass him. The school was in the process of releasing their students which caused traffic to slow down. At this time there were many cars parked on the side of the road along with numerous students crossing the Street. The two drivers exchanged hand gestures and profanities towards one another. The officer was told that Rivera began to tailgate him as he drove by the high school. The victim said that he pulled over to allow Rivera to pass.

Rivera drove past the victim and then pulled to the side of the road. At this time Rivera exited his vehicle, went to his trunk and retrieved a machete. Rivera then walked towards the victim and threatened him with the weapon. Rivera then punched the victim on the side of his face.
