Worcester Man Arrested for Illegal Possession of Firearm

Wednesday, July 06, 2016

John Gray, 19, of Worcester will be charged with unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, improper storage of a firearm, resisting arrest, furnishing a false name and receiving stolen property over $250 after police arrested him behind a Hollywood Street home on July 4.

The Incident

On Monday, July 4 at approximately 1:26 a.m., Worcester Police were sent to an address on Hollywood Street for a report of a large group of disorderly people. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a group of males and females who had congregated in front of the address. At the same time, another officer went around to the back of the address to determine if other individuals involved could be located.

While checking the back, the officer came across John Gray who was squatting down in the rear porch of the address. Upon seeing the officer, Gray stood up and was asked what he was doing. Gray responded "nothing" before quickly opening a door from the rear porch and entering the first floor apartment.

The officer then was able to perform a closer check of the area where Gray had been squatting down and observed a chrome Colt .32 firearm in the area where Gray had been.

The officer notified the other officers that he had located a firearm on the porch and broadcast description of Gray. Officers in the front address informed the officer that Gray just exited from the front of the residence. Gray was detained by officers.

The officer returned to the front of the address was able to identify Gray as the same male who had just fled into the house from the rear porch. Gray was placed under arrest but attempted to pull away and gave officers a fake name.

A check through the CJIS showed the Gray does not have an FID or an LTC and also showed that the gun was stolen. The gun was loaded with a round in the chamber.
