Worcester Man Arrested for Threatening Work Crew with Pick Axe
Thursday, May 21, 2015
According to the WPD, a construction crew was working on digging up old sidewalks to install new ones on William Street. A member of the crew told a WPD officer on the private construction detail that a man living in one of the homes had threatened the crew previously with a hammer and spray prainted sidewalks with "stay away," "no dig," and other phrases.
That very morning, the male that had threatened the crew came out of his home and chased a crew member that had been operating a jack hammer in front of 52 William Street. 45-year-old David Pederson, who lived at the address, was holding a pick axe and yelling at the crew. Pederson swung the pick axe into the sidewalk. The officer closed in and after telling Pederson twice to drop the axe, Pederson finally complied.
Pederson was placed under arrest and, according to the WPD, while being arrested continued to yell phrases at the crew that made no sense.
Pederson was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (pick axe) and Disturbing the Peace. He was transported to police headquarters and released on $40.00 cash bail later on in the evening.
