Christopher Gomez, 25 of Worcester was charged with three counts of armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, firearm use in a felony, along with other firearm and assault charges stemming from the robberies.
A second suspect in the robberies was identified as Raymond Simon, 22, of Worcester. Simon was arrested several weeks ago on unrelated charges and has since been additionally charged with three counts of armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and firearm use in a felony in connection with the robberies.
The case is still active as Detectives attempt to locate the third suspect involved.
The Arrests
Over the last month, Worcester Police Detectives have been investigating two separate armed robberies that took place on December 24, 2016. The first of these robberies happened on St Elmo Road at approximately 4:00 a.m. During the St. Elmo Road robbery, police learned that 3 men armed with firearms had forcefully robbed and assaulted 3 male victims. The suspects struck two victims in the head with a firearm before stealing personal property from the victims. During the robbery, one of the suspects fired his gun, striking the victim’s car.
The second robbery occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. the same morning. During this robbery, three suspects assaulted and robbed a male victim as he was entering his apartment in Great Brook Valley. During the robbery, the victim was pistol-whipped by two of the suspects, who then stole personal property from the victim.
During the course of the investigation, police were able to determine that the same three suspects were responsible for both robberies. Police identified Gomez as one of the suspects involved in the robberies, and a warrant was issued for his arrest for 3 counts of Armed Robbery, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Firearm Use in a Felony, along with other firearm and assault charges stemming from the robberies.
Police attempted to locate Gomez on several occasions, but were unsuccessful. During the investigation, police determined that Gomez’ girlfriend, identified Jeisha Benitez, 26 years old of Worcester, was actively assisting Gomez in evading arrest. On Friday, February 3, members of the Worcester Police Gang Unit located Gomez and Benitez driving in a vehicle on Elizabeth Street. Police stopped the vehicle and placed both under arrest without incident.
Gomez was arrested for the warrants, and Benitez was arrested for being an Accessory After the Fact for her role in assisting Gomez in evading arrest.
