Saturday, August 19, 2017
Jeremy Hughes, 30, was charged with Possession of a Class B Substance (Cocaine) and Possession of Class B Substance (Oxycodone) with the intent to Distribute.
Hughes also had a previous warrant out for his arrest.
The Incident
On Wednesday, August 16 at approximately 9:00 p.m., two officers working the Summer Impact Program had driven into the parking lot of the Gulf gas station located at 185 Madison Street. As soon as the officers stopped, their attention was drawn to a particular man that was wearing a black baseball hat. The officers became suspicious because as soon as the officers entered the lot the man looked nervous at the site of the officers, abruptly reversed his direction and started walking away at a fast pace. The man, later identified as Hughes was last seen entering the Burger King restaurant.
The officers entered the parking lot of Burger King. This particular area is known to be a problem for loitering. At this time there was a group hanging out in the parking lot. The officers asked the group to move on if they were not there as a patron. A few moments later Hughes was seen exiting the Burger King building. The officers saw Hughes walking away in a hurried pace once again.
The officers drove up to Hughes and engaged him in conversation. The officers asked Hughes his name. Hughes provided the officers with a false name and a false date of birth. Hughes appeared very nervous when the officers started talking to him. The officers eventually received his real name. A record check indicated that Hughes had an outstanding arrest warrant in effect.
A search of Hughes post arrest was conducted.
The search produced a plastic baggie that contained a dozen small pills. The pills were identified as 30mg of Oxycodone. The officers also found more plastic baggies that contained Cocaine.
