The Incident
On Thursday, September 29, 2016 at approximately 3:21 PM, Worcester Police responded to a Lincoln Village apartment with regard to a man that called police dispatchers saying that he just killed his 3 year old nephew.
A Worcester Police officer working a private detail for the complex immediately responded to the location. First arriving officers met with a man, identified as Taj McDonald, the uncle to the boy. The uncle allowed the officers into the apartment where they saw the 3-year-old boy on a nearby couch. He was conscious and alert.
As a precautionary measure, McDonald was secured in handcuffs, while other officers conducted a protective sweep of the apartment. Police checked the apartment to make sure that no one else was present and in need of medical help.
The uncle was taken to police headquarters, and spoke with detectives. It appears that McDonald was in charge of watching the boy today while his father was at work. Police were told that he assaulted the boy several times.
As a result of today’s events, the Department of Children and Families were informed of this incident and are working with investigators. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the apartment.
Members of the Worcester Police Department Crime Scene Unit secured the apartment and processed evidence.
