Worcester Man Charged With Possession of a Firearm Without License

Thursday, February 18, 2016

Worcester Police have arrested and charged Jose Pacheco, 25, of 57 Barclay Street, Worcester, with possession of a firearm, ammunition without an FID Card, and carrying a firearm without a license.

The arrest comes after Police seized the firearm during a traffic stop on Tuesday, February 16 at approximately 9 p.m.  while members of the gang unit were on patrol in the area of Austin Street.

The Incident

While on patrol, officers observed a vehicle accelerate near the intersection of Bellevue Street and Chandler Street. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed towards Bluff Street. Officers activated the emergency lights of the cruiser to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle pulled over on Woodland Street.

One of the occupants, identified at 18-year-old Victor Lopez had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was asked to exit the vehicle.

Another male, identified as Pacheco was asked to exit the vehicle to allow Mr. Lopez to step out. As Pacheco exited the vehicle, he pushed an officer against the door of the vehicle causing the officer to lose his balance.

Fearing the presence of a firearm, the officer reached over to pat frisk Pacheco. The officer felt a firearm in Pacheco's waistband.

Additional officer approached Pacheco and removed the firearm. Pacheco did not have a license to carry a firearm.
