Worcester Mayor Petty Announces Formation of Tax Policy Committee

Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty announced on Wednesday that he will be convening the Mayor's Tax Policy Committee in June of 2015. 

“The goal of this committee is to work with Worcester’s business, residential, and non-profit communities to find a fair and equitable, long-term revenue policy to make our city more competitive for all,” said Mayor Petty.  

The Mayor's Tax Policy Committee will find a solution that addresses the concerns of home owners, business owners, and non profits while attempting to create an economic environment that will keep Worcester's tax rate competitive  with similar cities. 

The Mayor's Tax Policy Committee consists of the following members: 

  • Mayor Joseph M. Petty
  • Robert Johnson – President of Becker College/ Vice-Chair of the Chamber of Commerce Board
  • Tim McGourthy – Executive Director, Worcester Regional Research Bureau
  • Chris Philbin – Vice President of Government and Community Relations, UMass Memorial Healthcare Inc.
  • City Councilor Tony Economou
  • Joan Crowell -AWARE Coalition
  • Seth Eassel – Managing Partner, GIMP Management and Tax Consultancy
  • William Ford – City Assessor
  • Fran Anthes – Executive Director, Family Health Center
  • Tim Murray – President, Worcester Chamber of Commerce
  • John Creedon – Vice President, Creedon and Co.
  • Paul Giorgio – Shrewsbury Street Merchants Association
  • Libis Bueno - Domitek Inc
  • Stephen Madaus –Partner, Mirick O’Connell
  • Gary Vecchio – President of the Shrewsbury St. Neighborhood Association.
  • Arthur Ellis – Community Member
  • State Representative Daniel M. Donahue

The committee plans to meet over the next year with shareholders, business and non profit leaders, and community groups to develop the plan. 

The report is expected to be released in Spring on 2016.

What kind of vehicle do you drive?

"I drive a 2004 Toyota Highlander; It's a four cylinder and I have had it for about five years now."

"It gets 23 miles to the gallon and is a pretty reliable vehicle, which is good because I commute back and forth to Boston a lot. It also has good storage space which is a plus."

"I enjoy driving down to the Cape; it fits a lot of stuff in the back so it is good for trips. I also like driving in and around the city."

"I listen to a lot of talk radio. Jordan Levy and WCRN are some of my favorites."

"The first car when you turn 16 is always a good memory. I used to own a Mercury Montego when I was in high school; it was a pretty cool car."
