Craftsy, and online community of craft makers, named Worcester as the fourth most generous metro area in the U.S. in its recent survey,
"Discover the Most Generous Cities in America." The survey, which tracked responses from 10,000 craft enthusiasts from 700 cities used the frequency and propensity for gift giving as the basis for its ranking.
According to the survey, 32 percent of American craft makers create handmade items for the purpose of gift giving, and 77 percent of survey participants claim to give a handmade gift more than twice per year.
The survey revealed some interesting details about crafting and gift-giving across various cities; for instance, Port St. Lucie. The 28 percent of the crafts made in the Florida city are created as gifts for pets. In San Juan, Puerto Rico, craft makers create the most handmade projects, at an average of seven per month.
The nearby city of Manchester, New Hampshire was selected as the top-ranked city in terms of generosity, with Port St. Lucie, FL; Spokane, WA; and Virginia Beach Virginia rounding out the top five.
