Following that incident, the suspect (s) then fired shots at the victim's vehicle, striking the mother and child. The child was struck in the shoulder. The mother was struck in the arm or hand.
There were several witnesses in the area at the time of the shooting.
WPD Chief Gary Gemme released a statement on Tuesday regarding the shooting. Gemme said, "Residents in our community are an active partner in preventing and reducing crime. Together we can work to address the issue of gun violence in our neighborhoods. We need to eliminate the “culture of silence” when it comes to providing officers with the information needed to solve crimes. Our detectives have been working around the clock to gather information about the shooting of an innocent mother and two year old child in Plumley Village. We are asking those with information about the suspect (s) involved to please step forward and contact our department. Each one of us has a role to play in improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods. We value our partnerships with the 52 neighborhood watch groups in the city and we are constantly trying to build trust and cooperation at the neighborhood level.”
