Worcester Police Charge Suspect With Kidnapping Following Accosting of Teenage Girls

Worcester Police have charged Fredy Cruz, 22, of Worcester with 3 counts of kidnapping, 3 counts of assault and battery and enticing a child under 16 following the accosting of teenage girls on Wednesday.

On Thursday, police officers were patrolling the area of Apricot Street after receiving reports that teenage females were accosted by a male on their way to school.

While on patrol, officers observed a male who was wearing the same clothing as the suspect and was walking in the same area where the incidents took place.

When the male spotted the officers, he reversed directions. Officers stopped and questioned the male, identifying him as Cruz. Cruz agreed to accompany officers to Worcester Police Headquarters to be interviewed.

Cruz acknowledged that he was involved in the incidents on Apricot Street.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Incidents

In the first incident, a 15-year-old female student at South High School reported that at approximately 7:30 a.m. a male ran up behind her while walking in the area of Apricot Street and grabbed her from behind. The female offered resistance and the male fled the area.

In a separate incident, an 8th grade female,14, at Sullivan Middle School reported that a male approached her while walking on Apricot Street at approximately 8:15 a.m. The male stopped her and stated "You're coming with me."

The female refused and the male grabber her arm. The female reported that she punched the male multiple times before he ran away.
