Worcester Police Officer Hit by Car While Chasing Suspect on Chino Avenue

While chasing the suspect, the officer was hit by the front of a 2013 MItsubishi Outlander, the force of the impact caused the officer to go up onto the hood and smash the windshield before sliding off and onto the ground.
The officer was conscious and alert but did receive injuries to his right side involving his leg, chest and head. Emergency personnel responded tot he scene and provided medical care before he was transported to the hospital for treatment. He was released later that evening.
The Investigation
A preliminary investigation has indicated that the officer had made contact with a 16 year old male that was known to him to have a warrant for his arrest, for assault and battery and vandalizing property.
The officer spotted the male by the Worcester Arts Magnet School when the suspect noticed the officer and ran. The officer chased after him while calling out over the police radio that he was in foot pursuit and provided the direction of travel.
The suspect crossed the street and was nearly hit himself, while the officer was unable to avoid the vehicle.
The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested at his home on Dorchester street and charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of trespassing.
When told that the officer chasing him was hit by a car, the suspect said "that's what he gets for chasing me."
The accident investigation is ongoing. There have been no citations issued at this time. Investigators are reviewing security camera footage of the incident.
Witnesses were also identified and interviewed.
