Worcester Winter Storm Evening Update

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

Worcester City government will re-open on Wednesday following a two-hour delay for non-essential employees. City Hall, the Worcester Public Library, and all city departments at Meade Street will be open to the public at 11 AM. The Worcester Senior Center will remain closed on Wednesday.

As GoLocal reported, Worcester Public Schools will also remain closed.

“This storm is now one of the largest Worcester snowstorms on record. The safety of the plow operators and public will not be well-served by having an overtired workforce operating two-ton machines on our city streets," said City Manager Ed Augustus.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) will continue to plow with its full fleet of 400 pieces of equipment up until 8 PM Tuesday night. The city will begin to give snow plow drivers a break, since they've worked 33 of the last 37 hours.

However, the entire fleet of snow removal equipment will be back on the roads by 5 AM Wednesday morning to ensure the streets are ready for the early commute.

The city's parking ban remains in effect, but free overnight parking is still allowed in city-owned parking garages overnight on Tuesday.

DPW will pick up trash and recycling on Wednesday, but will be on a one day delay due to the storm.
