Worcester’s South High Celebrates AP Program with Academic Rally on Thursday

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

In celebration of nearly doubling qualifying results of three or higher in AP exams in five years, South High School will be throwing an academic rally on Thursday morning.

Last year, 135 South High students received a three or higher on their AP exams - an increase of 18 percent from 2014 and nearly twice as many as the 68 qualifying results at the school in 2009.

In 2015, the number of AP Science qualifying scores doubled, and AP Biology scores were seven times higher than 2014. There are currently 406 students in AP classes this year - compared to 137 in 2009.

The number of Hispanic males taking AP exams has quadrupled since the school joined the program.

The South High celebration will kick-off at 9 AM on Thursday, September 24 at South High, 170 Apricot Street in Worcester.

Speakers at the event will include South High Principal Maureen Binienda and Mass Insight Education College Senior Field Director John Smolenski.
