Page 7 McClellan Senate Investigation Commission Subpoenas Patriarca
A Memo TELETYPE from the Boston office of the FBI to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover unveiling that Patriarca told the Special Agent that he had received a subpoena from the high profile Senate Investigative Committee on organized crime.
McClellan went on to play a key leadership role in other US Senate investigation including the 1960 to1964 set of hearings which ultimately became known as the Valachi Hearings.
The McClellan hearings were lead by staff Attorney Robert Kennedy and that exposure put him in the national spotlight.
Patriarca’s Attorney tells a special agent that Patriarca plans to plead the 5th Amendment “as he is affriad his testimony ma be in conflict with his testimony in nineteen fifty nine with Senator Mc Clellan PCI…”
Page 23-26 Load Schemes and Kickbacks
According to a range of informants, the Patriarca’s were influential in pressuring banks to approve loans to businesses that the Patriarca’s have a relationship with and then they would receive a percentage of the loans. “He said that RAYMOND PATRIARCA has complete knowledge of this loan scheme and is involved in the schemem…” said the informant.
Plantation Bank in Johnston was one of the banks allegedly involved in the scheme.
Page 24 Hob Nob Restaurant
The now defunct Hob Nob Restaurant in Providence was secretly owned by Raymond Patriarca’s brother Joseph, but not under his name according to FBI informants.
In a memo from J. Edgar Hoover to the new US Attorney General Robert Kennedy he outlines the severity of Patriarca's influence.
The memo ties Patriarca to multiple murders. It also outlines that all gambling interests needed to pay a percentage of their income up to Patriarca.
Page 45 Patriarca Sues the Providence Journal for $1 Million
According to an FBI memo, Patriarca “has abstained a Writ against the Providence Journal in the amount of one million dollars for the defamation of character.”
Page 76 Patriarca and the “Italian Element “ Take Over Bookmaking
The FBI claims the the “Italian Element” took over and forced the non-Italians out of the business.
