As GoLocal has unveiled in the publication of the FBI files on Raymond Patriarca, the New England La Cosa Nostra had tremendous influence on Rhode Island elected officials.  

This week’s documents, show that there were allegations of ties to both Democrats and Republicans running for Governor in MA— John Volpe and Francis Bellotti.

PAGE 19 “PATRIARCA states that former State Police REDACTED had contacted him relative to an alleged quarter of a million dollar payment to Democratic Candidate for the Governorship FRANCIS X BELLOTTI by PATRIARCA and his associates.

PAGE 20 “REDACTED told PATRIARCA that he is very close to Republican candidate HON VOLPE (who was subsequently elected as the next Governor of Massachusetts) and VOLPE has promised him to be made the next Massachusetts State Police Commissioner.”

“PATRIARCA denied that he gave money to Democratic candidate FRANCIS X. BELLOTTI.”
