Welcome to “America” the Nation of “Winners”—Raymond Two Hawks Watson

Monday, November 14, 2016

Raymond Two Hawks Watson, Guest MINDSETTER™

Donald Trump is President of the United States of America.  I repeat… Donald Trump is President… of the United States of America.  Are you surprised?  I’m not.  Welcome to “America” the nation of “winners.” Winning is the American way.

And when hasn’t it been this way?  It’s in the DNA of this place called the USA.  From the first American “savages” that were massacred in pursuit of colonial progress, to the African and Irish slaves that were sold for labor to help certain families achieve the “American dream” of wealth and luxury; from the doctrine of Manifest Destiny and its accompanying atrocities, to the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki; from the Wall Street Banks that were simply “too big to fail”, to the DNC colluding to support a particular candidate in the 2016 Presidential election, the list goes on and on.  This is the USA, and in the USA it’s all about “the win”.

I’m not surprised that Donald Trump is President of the United States of America.  Not at all.  He did it the “American” way.  He did whatever he had to do to win.  He manipulated the fears of disenfranchised people, he tapped into a population that felt vulnerable and was looking for someone to confirm their anger, he pointed fingers, he encouraged violence, he shouted bigoted slogans, he hatemongered and, in the end, he won.  What’s more “American” than that?  When hasn’t that strategy worked in the USA?  Congratulations President Trump.

People are upset.  But so what?  What are we going to do about it?  After the marching and protesting, what are we going to do about it?  After we’re done sharing our next facebook post or twitting out our next opinion, what are we going to do about it?  After we’re done ranting about how much we can’t stand the government and feel like our rights are being violated, what are we going to do about it?  After we get done doing whatever it is that we’ve been doing, what are we going to do about it?  Because Donald Trump is President of the United States of America, and it’s very apparent that whatever we’ve been doing clearly has not been enough.

Ideally this should be a time of self-examination for the Nation as a whole.  Ideally the citizenry should take some time to reflect on how they’ve been going about the business of governing their country and themselves.  Ideally sensible minds should take a moment to pause and say to themselves “Wait a minute… Donald Trump is President of the United States of America.  I should be doing something about this.”  Ideally.

But practicality would imply otherwise.  Even as I type these words #NotMyPresident protests are taking place in cities across the US, “anti-Trump” and “anti-Clinton” rhetoric is being hurled back and forth,  Republicans are asking for “cooperation and patience” after having exhibited no such behavior while President Obama has been in office, racism and bigotry are arrogantly and openly rearing their ugly heads once again, nobody is willing to accept responsibility for any of it… all of this is on display for the entire world to see… and yes, Donald Trump is President of the United States of America.

Despite what any of us may believe, feel or have been doing for however long we’ve been doing it, Donald Trump is President of the United States of America.  He won.  He is President of the United States of America.  That should be a reality check for us all.
