Brown Raises $5 Million in Second Quarter

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Senator Scott Brown has raised $5 million in the second quarter of 2012, $2.6 million less than challenger Elizabeth Warren.

The second quarter was the most successful fundraising period to date for either candidate

Warren announced on Monday that her campaign had raised $8.67 million, $1.7 more than the first quarter of 2012.

While Warren has out-raised Brown for each of the last two quarters, with $15.5 millon, Brown maintains an edge in cash on hand, thanks to $7 million left over from his 2010  special election campaign.

Both campaigns are seeking to stress that they are local candidates: the Brown campaign said that two-thirds of its donors were from Massachusetts.

"We are extremely grateful for the strong showing of support for Senator Brown from the people at home who know him best," said John Cook, the Brown campaign's finance director. "This election will be decided by the voters of Massachusetts based on two very different visions for our future, and Scott Brown will have the resources he needs to share his pro-jobs message and independent record with voters across the Commonwealth.

"Professor Warren may have the support of the out-of-state, left-wing interest groups, but no amount of money can change the fact that she supports job-destroying tax hikes that would crush our struggling economy," Cook said.

Alethea Harney, a spokesperson for the Warren campaign said that more than 40,500 Massachusetts residents have contributed to her campaign.

"More than 80% of her donations are $50 or less. Her proven record of standing up for middle class families is building strong grassroots support across the Commonwealth," Harney said.

Complete financial reports for both campaigns are due on July 15.
