HOT
Gabriel Gomez -> If Ed Markey can't beat a newbie in a TV debate, Markey has troubles. Guess what? The debate was pretty much of a toss-up. Gomez and Markey both got their shots in and made missteps.
Mayor Joe Petty -> The Mayor is starting to get active on the city's finances and is now beginning to take some leadership on the tough issues that will make or break the city.
Carol Claros -> She has been at the eye of the storm of national GOP politics during the convention. She is a single mom, healthcare pro and community leader who will make Worcester a better place. (PS She was one of GoLocalWorcester's 2012 Coolest People in Worcester).
Professor Roberta Schaefer -> The head of the Research Bureau is a Tasmanian devil when it comes to stirring the pot and keeping the focus on the city of Worcester's finances. No one is better at keeping the big spotlight on the city's budget.
NOT HOT
The U.S. Senate Debate -> Let's see... the residents of the Commonwealth had three options on Wednesday night - the U.S. Senate debate, the Red Sox game and game 3 of the Eastern Conference Championship Bruins v Penguins. Haven't seen the ratings yet, but my guess is Chara and Crosby beat Gomez and Markey.
Telegram -> At least one of the bidders for the Boston Globe is asking for the Telegram not to be included in the Globe package. Why? It has no value. Mary Meeker — formerly of Morgan Stanley, now at VC firm Kleiner Perkins — has a damning review of the future of newspapers, that sadly now only represent 6% of the news market.
Governor Deval Patrick -> Getting drunk during a search for terrorists was not a great idea. Admitting it publically raises some questions about judgment.
City Council-> Let's get this straight—Rush Gaming might have developed an abandoned piece of industrial land, might have invested hundreds of millions in Worcester, and created thousands of permanent jobs and the council really never did anything. Now, Rush is gone. We will never know if this was a bad operator with a bad idea or a potentially strong economic development idea.
