Giorgio: Christmas in Worcester 2014

Wednesday, December 24, 2014

Paul Giorgio

Tonight and tomorrow  as we gather with family and friends, let us take time to remember the meaning of Christmas and think of those less fortunate.  Today is not a day of serious politics so enjoy my interpretation of some holiday favorites.

Twas the Night Before Christmas

(with my apologies to Clement Moore)

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro' City Hall,
 Not a creature was stirring, not even the ghost of  Harvey Ball;
 The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
 In hopes that Mayor Joe  soon would be there;
 The Councilors  were nestled all snug in their beds,
 While visions of re- election danc'd in their heads,

 And Melinda  in her 'kerchief, and Ed in his  cap,
 Had just settled their brains after a big  budget flap-
 When out on Main Street there arose such a clatter,
 I sprang from the office to see what was the matter.

 The moon on the Oval all covered in snow

Gave the luster of mid-day to the skaters  below;

 When, what to my wondering eyes should I see
 But Mayor Joe , looking for me .

There he was all covered in snow

But I knew in a minute it must be Mayor Joe

More rapid than eagles the Councilors  they came,
 And he whistled, and shouted, and call'd them by name:
"Now! Bergman, now! Russell now ! Riveria,  Palmeri, and Gaffney,
 "On! Lukes, on! Economou, Rushton, on! Rosen and Toomey;

"To the top of the clock  tower! to the top of City Hall
 "Now go away ! go away! go away all!"

We three Kings from Worcester Are

(an Ode to Jim McGovern, Joe Petty & Tim Murray)

(Song to the tune of We Three Kings from Orient Are)

We three Kings from Worcester we are

Bearing a contract  we traveled not far

Chorus:

Oh Ed of Wonder, Ed so bright

Won’t you guide us with your height

Liberal leaning

Still proceeding, Guide us though they might

Born a manager in Main South’s plain

A contract I bring, although there was much pain

Manager forever, ceasing never

Over us all Ed shall reign

Jimmy the Congressman

(song to the tune of Frosty the Snowman)

Jimmy the Congressman was a jolly happy soul

With a wisp of hair,

 And a complexion so fair

And eyes as dark as coal

Jimmy the Congressman is a liberal they say

He was made of snow, but we all know how he came to life one day

It must have been the magic that man from Cuba found

For when he heard what Obama Did?

Jim began to dance around

O Jimmy the Congressman was as happy as he could be

Thumpty thump, thumpty thump look at Jimmy go

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Chanukah, Happy Holidays and Festivus for the rest of us.
