Gov. Patrick Endorses Tolman for MA Attorney General

Thursday, September 04, 2014

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has officially endorsed Warren Tolman in his campaign for Attorney General in an email to the campaign’s many supporters.

With the primary less than a week away, many candidates are picking up eleventh hour endorsements, many of them being of prominent political figures throughout the state.

“I’m voting for Warren Tolman for Attorney General. One of our great strengths in Massachusetts is the deep pool of Democratic talent, the importance of the ideas they campaign on and the benefits we get from the competition among them. The race for Attorney General is no exception, with two strong candidates with stellar credentials and experience, running good campaigns. I am endorsing Warren because I know from his campaign and from a deep personal relationship with him that he will be an activist AG, and I am excited about that,” Patrick said. “From gun safety to health care costs to consumer protection and civil rights, I want an AG who will not only enforce the law effectively, but also use the influence of the office strategically to improve the lives and prospects of Massachusetts people and small businesses. Warren Tolman will be that kind of leader. I am proud to endorse him today and urge voters in the Democratic primary on September 9th to join me in voting for him.”

Governor Patrick joins a growing group of endorsements for Tolman, including Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, the four most recent former Massachusetts Attorneys Generals: Frank Bellotti, Scott Harshbarger, Tom Reilly and Jim Shannon, former Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh, campaign co-chairs State Senator Linda Dorcena Forry and Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll, and former State Treasurer Shannon O’Brien. Tolman also has a wealth of endorsements by various organizations and unions.

“I am so grateful, and so honored, to have the support of Governor Deval Patrick,” Tolman said. “Governor Patrick has left a mark on Massachusetts as a bold and progressive leader, and a friend to the Commonwealth. I’m proud to have his support, and as Attorney General, I will share his values in fighting the tough fights and protecting our neighborhoods and communities.”
