Grossman Calls Out Coakley for Supporting Unlimited Gun Sales
Thursday, July 24, 2014
Grossman is quick to point out the Coakley had previously joined the NRA in supporting unlimited gun sales for years by opposing a variety of efforts to change state laws that would help to limit the number of guns one could purchase in a given period.
"The Attorney General has sided with the NRA to support unlimited gun sales in Massachusetts for years," said Grossman. "I'm proud to stand with Deval Patrick and fight against the gun lobby's corrosive influence on gun safety laws. When it comes to limiting gun sales, Martha Coakley continues to be part of the problem, not the solution."
Grossman notes that he has voiced a strong support for Governor Patrick’s proposal to limit the purchase of guns to one a month, a policy that he says Coakley has opposed.
Working to Make Massachusetts Safe
Having worked as the Assistant District and District Attorney as well as her current position as Attorney General, Coakley has long worked to make communities safer, says her press secretary Bonnie McGilpin.
McGilpin says that Coakley has spearheaded many efforts throughout her career to make the schools, streets, and homes of Massachusetts for all. She has fought for many policies and laws in the past, all aimed at making Massachusetts a safer place to live.
“Among other public safety measures, she has supported closing the gun show loophole, banning assault weapons, and background checks for gun purchases,” said McGilpin. “Martha has sat with the families impacted by violent crimes, and prosecuted hundreds of dangerous criminals, including cases involving gun violence. That record has earned her an F from the gun lobby and Steve Grossman's desperate political attacks can't alter that record of accomplishment."
