Letter to Editor: Why I’m Voting for Linda Parham for City Council
Thursday, September 03, 2015
This year many outstanding candidates are running for city-council at large, making it difficult to choose one. But if I am going vote for one, I would choose Linda Parham. Linda is a people’s person; she was homeless for a while and knows first-hand about the poor and disadvantaged. She bootstrapped herself by going to college and getting advanced degrees. She is a community organizer, and has profound familiarity with challenges the youth and the underprivileged of society are facing.
Our city is confronting many challenges. Not the least of which is the uptick in crime and street violence. This has created a climate of fear and distrust in some neighborhoods. Recently police chief, after one of those shootings, stated that there is a culture of silence in Worcester; namely people do not come forward to cooperate with the police. This could be partly because our city government does not have the full trust of its citizens.
Sending Linda Parham to city council will alleviate this deficit of trust. Having a person of color in the council will reflect the diversity of this great city, where people of color, immigrants and refugees try to realize their dreams.
Let’s vote for Linda Parham on Sept. 8. To learn more about her and her positions on taxation, safety and other issues, Google the interview T&G made with her recently.
