MassGOP Blasts Dem Gubernatorial Candidates in “One Party Brawl”
Friday, September 05, 2014
According to the MassGOP, “One Party Brawl” will help to show that while these candidates are taking the time to bash each other to help their chances of winning the upcoming primary, the ultimately have the same viewpoints on a variety of different topics.
“Given that Coakley, Grossman and Berwick all agree on so many issues like higher taxes and drivers’ licenses for illegal immigrants, it’s all the more important for voters to stay up to date on the latest and greatest attacks on each other,” said Kirsten Hughes, MassGOP chairman. “‘One-Party Brawl’ will be a valuable resource as voters wonder just how divisive and out-of-touch these far-left liberals have grown.”
Martha Coakley, Steve Grossman, and Donald Berwick, are currently battling for the Democratic primary vote. The winner will likely go on to face Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker.
Democratic Debate
MassGOP recently highlights the debate during the Boston Consortium, where both Berwick and Grossman took a lot of time to attack their competition, Martha Coakley, who currently has a favorable lead in the polls.
As the candidate sitting at the bottom of the Democratic gubernatorial totem poll, Donald Berwick spent a lot of time criticizing his competition, as stale agents of the status quo.
“If you want independence in the governor’s office then choose someone who owes no one any favors,” said Berwick at the Consortium. “My opponents are both professional politicians, and they have a long history of connection to the very structures of influence that are troubling our Commonwealth.”
Competition Against Baker
Because Baker is the likely Republican candidate – his opponent Mark Fisher has never been close in polling figures – Democratic candidates are also trying to make the argument as to who would be the best candidate to face Baker.
Both Berwick and Grossman have commented about the matter, saying that they would make a better candidate to face Baker in the general election.
“With a week to go before the election, Martha Coakley still hasn’t made up her mind on a range of important issues,” said Grossman. “That’s not leadership. Its just politics.”
Rather than just focusing on Coakley, Berwick has chosen to focus on both, saying that he is the only candidate that hasn’t lost a statewide election.
“We saw a campaign that was coasting in 2010 and ended up losing,” said Berwick in reference to Coakley’s failed campaign against Scott Brown for a Senate seat. “‘People are very, very worried about us losing another big one on the Democratic side.”
