NEW: Baker Has Nine Point Lead Over Coakley in Polls
Thursday, October 23, 2014
Baker currently leads Coakley 45-percent to 36-percent, which is a wider margin than either candidate has had in this race.
This poll reflects a surge of independent voters leaning toward Baker rather than Coakley, a group of voters, which was key to Governor Deval Patrick’s election in 2006 and 2010.
“This latest poll further evidences a clear trend of growing bipartisan support for Charlie Baker,” said Jim Conroy, Baker’s campaign manager. “Charlie’s honest and positive message of good jobs, great schools and an accountable, fiscally responsible state government is presenting a clear contrast with the Attorney General's campaign based on misleading negative attacks and plans to increase taxes.”
Trends in recent polling show that support for Baker has been growing since late August, when he only had the support of 38-percent of likely voters, while Coakley’s support has dwindled 5-percent after staying steady throughout much of the fall.
The poll was conducted between October 19th and October 22nd and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4-point. The poll was of 500 likely voters, 100 more than the Globe’s typical poll of 400
