NEW: Senator Brown Releases Tax Returns

Friday, April 27, 2012

Senator Brown with supporters in Worcester last week

Since winning a Senate special election, Scott Brown’s income has reportedly more than doubles from more than $294,000 in 2009 to almost $840,000 in 2010, according to his campaign.

In 2011, Brown and his wife, Gail Huff, who is a television reporter for WJLA-TV, reported a total income of $510,856.

They paid $123,642 in taxes, about a quarter of the total, and contributed $16,487 to charity, or 3.2 percent of their total income. This was nearly twice the amount the couple had donated to charities in 2007 and their highest donation in the past six years.

Why the sudden increase?

Brown’s increased income was attributed mostly to a $700,000 book advance for his memoir, Against All Odds, according to tax returns that were released today. He has received the standard congressional salary of $174,000 per year since taking office.

His opponent, Democrat Elizabeth Warren, is slated to release her own returns today. Stay tuned to GoLocal for her returns.

To promote transparency, those seeking or holding official public office release tax information frequently.
