Paul Giorgio: Obamacare, The Debt Ceiling + Tea Party Republicans
Wednesday, September 25, 2013
The stock market, after an amazing 2 weeks dropped dramatically at the end of last week, because of the Republican House’s passage of repeal of Obamacare.
How has the party of supposed fiscal responsibility become so irresponsible?
The right wing's hatred of President Barack Obama is so intense that they would rather have the government fail than have the president succeed.
The target of the Tea Party is Obamacare and they want Congress to defund it or risk the threat of a government shutdown by October 1st, the beginning of the new fiscal year. They are also holding the debt limit ceiling hostage. But this is nothing new.
Republicans have been trying to end social security since it was first passed on August 14, 1935. They have been trying to end Medicare since it was passed 30 years later in 1965. Now their target is national healthcare.
At least the Republicans in the senate have more common sense. They have said that they will not hold the economic recovery hostage to the Tea Party Republicans.
We need fiscal and finacial stability and we can’t have this Gang of 40 led by Majority Leader Eric Cantor derail the government. Obamacare, or National Healthcare, has become their Holy Grail. They will stop at nothing to repeal it, just like they want to privatize Social Security.
The Social Safety Net that President Ronald Regan talked about keeping in place means nothing to the radical right. They really believe that no government is the best government.
Please tell me what is wrong with national healthcare?
Some of the key points the Republicans find offensive: preexisting conditions must be covered by Insurance companies, children can stay on their parents plan until they are 26, all children will be provided with healthcare. Are these things so bad that we are going to risk the fiscal stability of the United Sates economy or is it something more?
Is it that this is President Obama’s lasting legacy? Every Democratic President since Harry Truman tried to get some form of National Healthcare passed and all failed except President Obama.
No Congress has had a problem with the debt ceiling except this one.
The economy is improving. The deficit is dropping dramatically and we are on the road to full recovery. If things continue to improve, we may actually find ourselves with a budget surplus. One of the main drivers of our economy is the auto industry and a Ford 150 pickup truck is sold every 40 seconds in the country now. Do you know who is buying those? Construction workers who are back to work.
America is back to work. Let’s not set the progress back. Let’s not wreck the economic recovery over right wing ideology. The Congress needs to do the right thing.
They need to separate their hatred and prejudice of this president from the fiscal reality our nation faces.
