Senator Warren to Visit Alabama for 50th Anniversary of Civil Rights Marches
Tuesday, March 03, 2015
“The civil rights marches from Selma to Montgomery were landmark moments in the ongoing fight for equality,” Warren said. “The protesters’ courageous actions helped push back against racial discrimination and spurred passage of the Voting Rights Act. I look forward to visiting Alabama this weekend to commemorate the legacy of these historic marches and to reflect on our continuing work to build a society where everyone is treated equally under the law.”
Senator Warren’s visit is part of the bipartisan “Congressional Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Alabama,” which is organized by the Faith and Politics Institute and takes place from March 6 to 8. The pilgrimage will include visits to 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Brown Chapel AME Chuch and the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, and the Alabama State Capital and Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery.
