Tim Cahill: Things That Confused Me

ELIZABETH WARREN'S excuses for claiming to be Native American. I mean I understand why you might put something on your resume that sets you apart from your peers or competitors. But claiming to be Native American in order to get lunch dates with people like yourself. I thought the whole purpose of diversity is to interact with different people.
I am confused.
DAN LOEB' S complaint that because Yahoo's CEO Scott Thompson does not, as he claimed, have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from a small college in Easton, Massachusetts he is not qualified to lead Yahoo. Scott Thompson does have a degree from Stonehill College. Last time I checked it was still a small college located in Easton, as it was in 1979 when he graduated. That the degree was in accounting doesn't seem like such a big deal. Didn't Steve Jobs major in Calligraphy in college?
I am confused.
PATRICIA KRENTCIL taking her five year-old daughter tanning. It's bad enough that Patricia looks like she left a hot iron on her face for a week, but why would she ever subject a child to that. Besides did she not notice that her daughter is a red head. Was she looking to add some freckles to the little girl. Maybe tanning booths kill brain cells as well as skin cells.
I am confused.
STRESS MAY HAVE KILLED VLADIMIR LENIN. Really? What did Lenin have to be stressed about? He had just led a communist revolution in Russia, taking money, possessions, and land from anyone that had some, and Joseph Stalin was just a heartbeat away. What possibly could have stressed Lenin out? Maybe it was the poison that Stalin kept handy. Which was it, poison or stress? Either way Stalin won.
I am confused.
JOE BIDEN IN MEXICO. If it is considered to be bad luck to make a toast in Ireland with water, as he said, (another reaffirmation of the Irish stereotype by one of our own) then why the hell did he do it anyway. As if Mexico needs another reason to feel like we have jinxed them. Why do they ever let "Uncle Joe" out of the country.
I am confused.
BOSTON RED SOX CONSECUTIVE SELL-OUT STREAK. It appears to me and to others that the streak is over. Has been for some time and likely will get worse before it gets better. What difference does it make anyway. Tampa Bay is in first place and they are lucky if they get 8,000 to a regular season game and have trouble selling-out playoff games. The only streak that matters for true Red Sox fans is a winning streak. Wondering if that matters to ownership anymore.
I am confused.
EUROPE. Nothing seems to make any sense in Europe anymore. First Greece went down. Then they put an Italian in charge of European Central Bank. French President Sarkosy is about to be defeated for reelection. And Spain is experiencing almost 25% unemployment. Out of control government spending seems to have created the problem. Government sponsored austerity seems to be making things worse.
I am confused.
JUNIOR SEAU. This one is the most perplexing. A seemingly happy go-lucky, future NFL Hall of Fame football player who plays the ukulele, and lives to surf, commits suicide. He performed magnificently on the field with great joy and exuberance. Yet beneath the surface something troubled him. Was it getting hit in the head too often playing football or something more complicated?
I am confused. And saddened.
