Who needs to retire to Boca when you've got Providence? So says a new survey from Bankers Life and Casualty Center for a Secure Retirement, putting Providence in the nation's Top 20 cities for seniors. The capital city was ranked at #18 overall.

Parents Magazine thinks Providence is one of the healthiest cities in the US for families. The capital city took the #5 spot in the brand-new rankings from the popular magazine's October 2011 issue which has just hit newsstands.

In the fall of 1997, I was introduced to a gentle, funny man who had a photographic memory for Hollywood birthdays. “Princess,” as many of his friends affectionately call him, was one of the people I came to trust and upon whom I relied. As September ends, exhaustion may threaten to set in since it has been openings, open studios, and events for the past month in addition to getting back into the swing of fall. Perhaps many will welcome the lighter schedule, but some might feel like something is missing with having so much free time as October rolls around.

More than 1,000 walkers, supporters and volunteers from across southern New England attended The Walk for Hasbro Children’s Hospital on Saturday, September 24. Patients, families, hospital staff, local businesses and the public teamed up to raise money to enhance existing programs or purchase critically needed medical equipment for the hospital’s young patients.

The Rhode Island Department of Health has hired Dr. Christina Stanley as the new Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Rhode Island. She will officially begin work in the position on October 9.
