slides: DESIGN LINE: 10 Great Table Lamps
Wednesday, May 15, 2013
I’m a big believer in layering interiors. Texture, shape, materials and color can all add up to a multi-dimensional interior space that feels more interesting and more comfortable. Lamps are a great way to add interest, so I’m going to share ten sensational table lamps to help kick your space up a notch.

Lotus Table Lamp
Classic on all accounts, this graceful lamp would be great in almost any setting, but somehow I see it in a fresh, casual interior near the ocean most. To boot, it’s shape and size are ideal: 33” tall with a 17” drum shade.
Buffet Table Lamp
Tracy Glover Studio
If you look closely at any house I design, you are likely to come across a lamp by my favorite glass blower: Tracy Glover. Available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors, it was hard to choose one for this piece. I love them all.
Silver Sage China Blossom
John Richard’s lighting is exquisitely crafted and often too fussy for my taste. But there are several lamps in his collection that I can’t resist. This one would be perfect in an upscale living room, dining area or study.
Farrington Table Lamp
Currey & Company
Sculptural marble and standing almost 38” tall make this lamp an excellent choice for some added drama.
Crate and Barrel
I believe that just a touch of animal is good in almost any interior setting. This lamp adds some texture and a subtle dose of cowhide.
Reactive Glass Lamp
Want some drama? Here you go. One day my dream is that a client will want an all white and black interior and this would be the perfect fit. But this lamp could be at home in an upscale living or dining room just the same.
Antiqued Metal Drum Lamp
No doubt that brass is making a come back. I still prefer the antiqued look. This lamp is classic. With a burnished brass shade, a simple stem and base, this lamp is the ideal library or den accessory.
Discus Table Lamp
Bill Sofield for Baker
Sometime a shorter, wider lamp is in order and this one, from Bill Sofield, is a classic. Sitting only 23” high with a 24” shade, this lamp fills a lot of space. Perfect to flank either end of a long sofa table or buffet.
Don’t forget that a table lamp can be just the pop of accent color a room needs. This sleek, deep red venetian glass lamp adds a burst of color and slick texture and could fit in almost anywhere. Can you tell that black shades are all the rage?
Melampo Table Lamp
This modern table lamp from Artemide comes in a standard and mini size. The shade tilts to direct the lighting. If you’re into slick, cool and uber-functional, this is a great lamp (and comes in a floor version too)!
