Hot Trends for Back To School Fashion

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Let your school hallways be your runway with these top fall 2011 fashion trends. GoLocalProv scouted the biggest trends at local stores and boutiques so your shopping will be fun and focused. The following trends can be found at multiple stores statewide, including Forever 21, American Eagle, Berk’s, and Urban Outfitters.

Indie 70’s

Everywhere you look, there is a celebrity walking though Hollywood with indie-inspired clothing. ’70s fashion is surely continuing on as a 2011 and 2012 fashion trend, and now you can turn 70’s boho into a sophisticated classroom look. Carry this style with defiant confidence and independence, and you will turn heads down the hallways. Be bold and express your unique personality through pairing together fun items from your existing wardrobe and buying a few fresh additions.

Top picks: high-waisted, wide-leg pants or flares (belt for the complete look), feather earrings, cross-body bags, native inspired prints, distressed patterned sweaters, knit vests, cropped jean jackets.

Luxe Grunge

The 90’s are back for fall 2011 but the 90’s style has been modernized to luxe grunge, which is dressier (and also school appropriate!). Get ready to rock the fall with layers, patterns, feathers, and fun embellishments. Look out for navy, grey, burgundy, and black hues for your grunge essentials.

Top picks: combat boots, anything plaid, long layers (try a sweater jacket over a long skirt), jean jackets, graphic t-shirts, oversized sweaters.

Bold Colors

The season's hottest trend is all about ultra-bold hues. You will see a lot of bright yellows, oranges, vibrant purples, cobalt blues, Kelly greens, and pinks. Bold mustard yellow, rust and jade green are the hottest picks.

Top picks: bright cardigans and colored jeans (perfect way to pop up an outfit and to get out of the blue jean rut), pair pieces with neutral colors to tone it down or go bold and mix bright colors for the color block look.

Tribal

For a worldly back-to-school look, seek patterns that are inspired by international cultures. Wear vibrant hand-made jewelry to complement any fall outfit. Make it your own, by trying spunky Bohemian layers or tribal chic. Look for zigzags, patterns, deep blues, oranges, and neutral hues.

Top picks: oversized tribal printed scarves, beaded shoes, chunky hand-made jewelry, tribal inspired dresses.
