video: #25 Holy Cross Loses 27-26 Heartbreaker to Dartmouth in OT

Sunday, September 24, 2017

Miles Alexander

The #25 Holy Cross Crusaders failed to convert a two-point conversion in overtime and fell to Dartmouth 27-26 on Saturday night in New Hampshire.

“Not feeling too good from a Holy Cross standpoint, not being able to finish off the end. Really proud of our guys, we made some mistakes but came back fighting and that has been typical of our team this year,” said Holy Cross head coach Tom Gilmore after the game.

The loss drops the Crusaders to 2-2 on the season. Dartmouth improves to 2-0.

Crusaders Come up Short

The Big Green took control of the overtime when quarterback Jack Heneghan found Stephen Johnston on a ten-yard touchdown pass to give Dartmouth the lead, 27-20, following an extra point.

The Crusaders would respond with a one-yard scoring run by running back Diquan Walker to make the score 27-26.

Instead of kicking the field goal to tie, the Crusaders went for a two-point conversion and the win.

On the two-point attempt, Peter Pujals’s screen pass was completed but short of the end zone. Dartmouth’s Jake Moen made the initial hit and Danny McManus followed up to end the game.

Holy Cross Ties it Late

Holy Cross trailed 20-14 with just seconds left in the fourth quarter before Pujals found Blaise Bell on a six-yard touchdown pass to tie the game with three seconds to go.

The Crusaders extra point attempt was blocked, sending the game to overtime.

Next Up

Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, September 30 when they host Lafayette.

Game time is set for 1 p.m.
