Robert Champion led Holy Cross with 20 points

The Holy Cross Crusaders mens basketball team (6-7, 1-1 PL) fell 65-60 on Saturday afternoon in Maryland. The Crusaders shot just 39% from the field in the game.

After a Robert Champion lay up, Holy Cross took a 31-30 lead with 15:40 to play in the game. However, from that point on, Navy would go on a 14-6 run to go up 44-36 with 9 minutes left in the game. 

The Crusaders would get as close as3 points, 63-60, with five seconds left to play but it was too little too late. 

Holy Cross falls to 1-1 in conference play. 

Leading the Way

Holy Cross was led by Robert Champion who poured in 20 points in 30 minutes of action off the bench. Meanwhile, freshman Karl Charles followed up with a career high 16 points. 

Next Up

Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, January 6th when they host Colgate at The Hart Center. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

Points off turnovers

Despite the loss, coach Carmody and the Crusaders have to be happy with only turning the ball over 9 times in the game and only allowing Navy to score 7 points off the turnovers. 

Holy Cross forced Navy into 10 turnovers and scored 15 points off of those turnovers.

Cullen Hamilton played 22 minutes and did not score a point, going 0 of 4 from the field. 

Hamilton had reached double figures in scoring in the three previous games.

Karl Charles

Karl Charles was a big part of the Crusaders win over Boston U. last week and though they did not win this won, Charles had another big game. 

Chalres poured in 16 points on 4 of 6 shooting from the field and 7 of 8 from the free throw line. 

Charles also grabbed 5 rebounds in the game.

Robert Champion led Holy Cross with 20 points in 30 minutes of action off the bench. 

Champion's 20 points came on 7 of 13 shooting from the feild, including 5 of 8 from three-point land. 

Champion also grabbed 7 rebounds in the game.

2nd chance points/ O- rebounds

Holy Cross overall was dominated on the glass, losing the rebounding battle 42-27 to Navy but they lost the offensive rebounding battle 16-8. 

Navy turned their 16 offensive rebounds into 11 points while the Crusaders only managed 4 points out of their 8 offensive rebounds.
