5 Takeaways From Holy Cross’ 76-75 Win Over Maine

Matt Husek posts 2nd double-double of season.

The Holy Cross Crusaders men's basketball team (5-6) defeated (2-9) Maine 76-75 on Monday night at the Hart Center. The Crusaders are now 8-1 all-time against Maine.

The Crusaders held a 67-60 lead with just a couple of minutes to lay before Maine went on a 9-3 run to cut thier deficit to one point, 70-69, with just one minute to play in the game.

The Crusaders proceeded to knock down six of their eight free throws in the final 19 seconds to seal the 76-75 win.

The Leaders

Robert Champion led Holy Cross with 20 points in 28 minutes off the bench while Matt Husek recorded his second double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Next up

After a Christmas break, the Crusaders get ready to begin conference play and kick it off with a bang as they host Boston University on December 30th at the Hart Center. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

Robert Champion led Holy Cross in scoring with 20 points on 6 of 14 shooting from the field and 5 of 8 from the free throw line, all coming off of the bench.

Champion also dished out 7 assists, had 2 steals and 1 block all in 28 minutes of play for Holy Cross.

Matt Husek

Matt Husek led Holy Cross with a career high 19 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field and 3 of 4 from the free throw line.

Husek also grabbed 13 rebounds and had 3 blocked shots in the game.

The double-double is his second of the season.

Free Throws

The game was close down the stretch and Crusaders won the game at the free throw line, hitting six of eight free throws in the final 19 seconds of action.

Overall, Holy Cross knocked down 17 of 28 free throws while Maine only shot 8 free throws and made five of them.

Every other statistical category was relatively close except free throws and that is where Holy Cross won the game.
