Danny Amendola

The New England Patriots (6-0) defeated the (4-2) New York Jets 30-23 on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots start 6-0 for the third time in franchise history.

"Really proud of our team again today, definitely wasn't our best performance, a lot of things that we left out on the field, just didn't do well enough, but in the end we were able to make the plays we needed to make, when we needed to make them and that was critical in all three phases of the game," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said in his post game press conference.

See the Five Takeaways Slideshow Below

The Patriots trailed 20-16 with just over seven minutes left in the fourth quarter when Tom Brady found Danny Amendola in the endzone to give New England a 23-16 lead after a Gostkowski extra point was good.

After a defensive stand, the Patriots offense got the ball back with just over five minutes to play and in good field position. Brady used passes to Amendola and Gronkowski to move down the field. Brady found Gronkowski on what was essentially a screen pass and Gronkowski ran it 15 yards to the endzone to give the Patriots a 30-20 lead and the win.

Notable Stats

Brady went 24 of 54 in the game for 355 yards ad two touchdowns (1 rush, 1 pass) while also leading the team in rushing with 15 yards.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski pulled in 11 catches for 108 yards and a touchdown, averaging 10 yards per catch. Danny Amendola had eight catches for 86 yards and the game winning touchdown.

Next up

The Patriots return to action on Thursday, October 29 when they host another division rival in the Miami Dolphins. Kick off is set for 8:25 p.m.

Rob Ninkovich

Rob Ninkovich had a tremendous game for the Patriots, all over the field and involved in seemingly every big defensively play the Patriots made.

Ninkovich had four pass deflections, it just too bad he or someone else couldn't pull one in for an interception.

Dropped Passes

Wide Receiver Brandon LaFell returned to the lineup off of the PUP list and looked rusty to say the least. LaFell accounted for 6 of the Patriots receivers 11 dropped passes.

The drops cost the Patriots numerous third down conversions and an Edelman drop in the third quarter cost the Patriots a touchdown.

3rd Down Defense

The Patriots third down defense was a bit frustrating throughout this game. Seemed like no matter what the yardage was, the Jets were able to pick it up. Jets were 7-14 on third down for a 50% conversion rate.

With that said, the defense got off the field on third down in the fourth quarter to give the Patriots the ball back. The Patriots would score another touchdown on that drive and seal the game.

Malcolm Butler

This was going to be a tough mathup for Butler, going up against Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Both Decker and Marshall were able to use their bodies to block out Butler, like in basketball, or in Marshall's case, just catch the ball over him.

Decker and Marshall had over 100 yards receiving in the game.

Logan Ryan also saw time on both and struggled with the size mismatch as well.

Danny Amendola

Danny Amendola may have literally saved the game for the Patriots.

While Edelman and LaFell had their struggles holding onto the ball, Amendola had nine catches for almost 100 yards and touchdown that gave the Patriots the lead for good.

Big game for Amendola.
