slides: 5 Ways to Play Fantasy Football When You Don’t Care About Fantasy Football

Monday, August 31, 2015

If year after year you find yourself on the outside looking in on the fantasy football playoffs, you’ve wasted hundreds of dollars each season trying to win thousands, and you’re tired of watching people you don’t really know or like hold up photos of a fake trophy, then who could blame you if you stopped caring?

The mock drafts, the rankings, the lists, the projections - it all gets old for a lot of people.

SEE SLIDES BELOW: 5 Ways to Play Fantasy Football When You Don’t Care About Fantasy Football

Forty-one million people play fantasy football each year. If you were stop caring about it, it probably wouldn’t come crumbling to the ground.

If you’ve been playing fantasy football for years, the chances of you giving up on it completely are slim. Peer pressure (“We need one more guy”), watching other NFL games (“I have the running back on the Titans”), and the always attractive notion of beating your friends and taking their money, are all ways to lure back those players that have basically checked-out in fantasy football.

So let’s say you do play. But how can you play if you don’t care?

At GoLocalWorcester, we’ve put together five ways to still play fantasy football even though you don’t care about it.

These five ways will help keep you competitive and engaged,  keep it fun, and put the focus on the real prize: the money.

Be a Homer.

Some might call this giving up, but if you've already done that, then what's the harm in drafting everyone from your favorite team?

For example, if you're a Patriots fan - why not go with Gronk, Brady, Edelman, and Gostkowski?

Brady and Edelman are judgement calls, but the other two are the best at their position.

You won't miss a game and you will win with them or lose with them. That's what being a fan is truly all about.

Talk "Smack."

Even if you're losing terribly week after week, you can still come out on top by simply harassing your opponent.

Send texts to him/her and say "Your QB is out for the season." That should rattle their cages a bit.

And of course, you can always say things that attack them personally, but in no way do we condone that.

Relish in the Failures of Other Teams in the League

Follow along week after week to see WHO ELSE loses. And then make them feel even worse about it.

For a lot of people, they take this game very seriously and would rather not to discuss any further the loss that was just handed to them.

But that's what you're here for. This is what they wanted - you in the league. How you behave when they finally talk you into playing is entirely up to you.

Make Side Bets Each Week with Opposing Teams

Think you're out of the running for the playoffs, but still want to make some of your money back?

The answer is side bets. Make small wagers with each person the week you are playing them.

Who knows? Maybe you break even on the entire season.

Watch Every Game on Sunday and Drink Beers

If you didn't go strictly homer on your whole team, then there will be other players in other games each Sunday.

What better way to spend your day than to pound some beers, eat a bunch of food, maybe fit a nap in, and cheer on players that mean nothing to you?

Answer: There is no better way.
